For my third tutorial blog for ISM 3004 I decided to do it about Skype. Skype is a software application that you can download for free from their website. Skype gives users the opportunity to talk to love ones via text or e-mail, calling, and/or video calling for free. But, if you do want to do more with your communication, i.e. group video calls or call forwarding, there is a small fee to pay.
Let's begin on how to use Skype:
First you need to download the program onto your computer from the website. And click the "Get Skype" tab and the choose what you would like to download Skype onto, i.e. your computer, phone, or television.
Once you have chosen where you want to download Skype onto, just follow the steps of the Set Up process by choosing your language and making a profile and account with Skype. When that is finished you will have to sign in to Skype with your Skype Name and Password.
Once you have logged in you can view your Profile. There you can add and change things to your discretion and what things you want to be public, private, or only seen by your contacts, very much like Facebook.
Now lets find some contacts. Go to the Contacts Tab,
a new window will then pop up. Here you can type in the person you are searching for by using their e-mail address, full name, or even more specific and an easier find is their Skype Name, since there are no duplicates on these.
After you have added your family, friends, or clients they will show on the left side of your page. If you want to talk to one of your contacts just double click their name and it will take you to their profile. When you are at their profile it will give you the option to call, video call, or just simply text them. Pick your option and wait for them to respond.
I use Skype on a weekly basis to keep in contact with my boyfriend who is overseas. It is a great and easy application to use both on the computer and on my phone. All images taken by Lauren Robert with Window's Snipping Tool.
